This hike is fantastic! Considered moderate in difficulty, this 4.5 mile out and back hike near Larrabee State Park leads you up switchbacks through forest populated with firs and cedars, and ferny undergrowth. The destination is a medium sized lake which you can circle in about 3/4 of a mile, and is great for swimming on a hot day. There are several small access points to the water for fishing or swimming. On a busy day it can be a crowded, but if you don’t mind sharing you have an opportunity to socialize with others who love the outdoors. We were able to get a beach to ourselves which made it easy for the kids to jump in the water and cool off.
Chill by the water and have lunch, or just loop around the lake and head back down the mountain. About 1 mile from the trailhead there is a lookout point you can take a .2 mile detour to reach, which looks out over the bay and is the only real view you get on the trail. There are lots of places to stop and rest, with a bench or log to perch on, but don’t forget your bug spray! All things considered, this is a great hike for the whole family.
